Character Name: Ash Ketchum
Character Series: Pokémon: Best Wishes!
Character Age: 10 (At least 4 years have passed since he turned 10, but apparently he hasn’t aged...)
Background: Ash Ketchum, one of the greatest Pokémon trainers to ever come from the Kanto region. He has competed in several regional league competitions with admirable results in each. From humble beginnings in Pallet Town, he received his first Pokémon, a Pikachu, by accident after oversleeping and missing out on all the other options. Regardless, he went out into the world, along with companions Misty and Brock as he travelled the lands of Kanto and Johto, as well as former Pokémon Watcher Tracey Sketchit during a brief detour to the Orange Islands.

As family commitments came up for Misty, Ash and Brock continued on through the Hoenn and Sinnoh regions, along with new companions May and Max in Hoenn and Dawn of Twinleaf Town in Sinnoh. Having come in the top four for the Sinnoh League tournament, Ash and his friends decided to part ways as they found new paths for their journeys to follow.

After arriving at home in Pallet Town, he and his mother were soon invited on a trip to the Isshu region by family friend Professor Samuel Oak. Originally intending on merely going on vacation, the various exotic Pokémon in Isshu made Ash decide to stay and challenge the local league. And so, this is where our tale leaves off...

Updated Background: After their encounter with the legendary Pokémon Zekrom, Ash and Pikachu set out from Professor Juniper’s lab to explore the Unova region. Excited about the Pokémon he’s sure to catch along the way, he soon takes note of something rustling in the bushes, which according to the Pokédex is an Axew. Despite the large purple thing in the bush not looking like the image in the Pokédex, he decided to try catching it anyway, only to discover a girl named Iris, a trainer who keeps her Axew stored in her hair. Unimpressed by Ash’s clear unprofessionalism in mistaking her for a Pokémon, she decided to berate him for being a child. But at this point, Ash is already distracted by his further attempts at catching a Pokémon, resulting in the capture of a Pidove before once again being ambushed by the Team Rocket agents that have been following him the past few years.

Despite a sudden burst of newfound competence, Team Rocket are soon foiled by Oshawott, a Pokémon belonging to Professor Juniper which had taken a liking to Ash and started following him. After bringing this up with Juniper via a phone call, she decided to simply allow Ash to have Oshawott since he had taken a clear liking to him.

Arriving in Accumula Town with Iris, Ash gains an interest in the local Pokémon Battle Club, where he discovers that a mysterious Pokémon has been stealing food. After investigating, the culprit was revealed to be a malnourished Tepig who was abandoned by his trainer. Taking the Tepig in as his own, Ash continues on his way to Striaton City to challenge the Gym there.

At the Striaton Gym, Ash is given an option to fight one of a group of triplets, Chili, Cress and Cilan, who jointly act as leader. Wanting to have as many battles as possible, Ash challenges all of them to a best out of three. Winning two out of the three battles, Ash managed to pull through to earn the Tri Badge.

Impressed by the unique “flavour” of Ash’s battle style, Cilan requests the opportunity to travel along with him and Iris to further inspect the unique bonds of Pokémon and trainer. Gladly accepting a new friend to travel with, the newly formed trio set out to fulfil their dreams, Ash as a Pokémon Master, Cilan as a Pokémon Sommelier and Iris as... what was Iris’s goal anyway? Whatever it is, Ash doesn’t know. On their way to the next city where Ash would obtain a badge, our heroes encountered a wild Snivy, which despite being highly resistant, was pursued by Ash until he had finally captured her.

After a few other adventures along the way, including a rematch with his rival Trip and receiving a Pokémon egg from a day-care center, Ash and the others arrived in Nacrene City, location of the second Gym in the Unova League.

After arriving in the city and dealing with a haunting at the museum, he challenged the local Gym Leader Lenora to a battle, and lost spectacularly due to her impressive strategy. Redoubling his efforts once again, Ash went to the local Battle Club to power up his Pokémon for a rematch. With Tepig and Oshawott both learning new moves, Ash returned to the Gym for a rematch this time successfully earning the Basic Badge. With his second Unova League Badge in hand, he continues his journey towards Castelia City, home of the third Gym of Unova.

Personality: Ash is well known for being cheerful and upbeat. His ultimate goal since childhood has been to become the number one Pokémon Master the world has ever seen. He sometimes has a bit of a one track mind, which can often lead to disaster, however most of the time he's rather accommodating, perhaps a little too much so, which often leaves him sidetracked helping random people he meets. This can sometimes get him in incredibly sticky situations, especially when in conjunction with his complete inability to see through even the most flimsy disguises employed by the Team Rocket agents who continue to try stealing his Pikachu at any possible opportunity.

Depending on how his recent luck has been in general, he can occasionally get a bit too overconfident in his own abilities after a good streak, sometimes resulting in downright arrogance towards others. While on the other end of the spectrum, a devastating loss can result in him being down in the dumps, the most notable case of this being just after his loss against Ritchie at the Indigo Plateau. However, his indomitable drive always manages to pull through in the end allowing him to get back on track more focused than ever.

Over time, he has had to deal with quite a number of rivals, such as Gary Oak, Paul, Nando, Conway and various others. Each one testing him in different ways, he is able to strategise and adapt to compensate for all kinds of battle styles, such as with the “Counter Shield” he created to keep the Ghost-type Pokémon of Fantina’s, the Hearthome City Gym Leader, at a distance.

Always eager for a Pokémon battle against tough opponents, Ash will train diligently in order to raise both himself and his Pokémon as he travels the land gaining strength and wisdom to be able to truly master the art of Pokémon battle. He is also incredibly stubborn. He has strong beliefs in how one should train their Pokémon and won’t hesitate to call someone out on doing the wrong thing, particularly with recent rival Paul in the Sinnoh region. Ash refuses to believe in the concept that there are “weak Pokémon” and “strong Pokémon” and considers all of them all to be individuals of equal value.

He likes to try and let each Pokémon he trains reach its maximum potential, even if it means letting them free to take a different path like his Primeape at the P-1 Tournament or his Charizard in the Charicific Valley. When he feels that a Pokémon has reached its full potential, he may leave it at home at Professor Oak's lab so as to allow himself to grow more alongside a new set of partners with as of yet unknown potential. The notable exception to this is his best friend Pikachu, which has been his constant companion ever since he first left home.

Abilities: He's good at training Pokeymanz? Possibly resistant to electric shocks.
Sample Entry: Man... I’m so bored... I’d normally challenge someone to a battle, but Pikachu isn’t here. What to do...? Hey, anyone know anything fun to do around here? It’s been a while since my last battle and I’m really itchin’ for some excitement around here!

... I wonder if there’s any good places to eat either? The food in this house isn’t half as good as what Brock used to make us...
